| A Brief History of the Philippine Software Industry :: |
1970s CIS is set up in 1974 as a spin-off of the Manila Electric Company’s EDP group introducing database & data communications and computer output microfilming.
1980s CIS is one of the first companies to deliver offshore software development services. It is the biggest breeding ground for many of today’s local software industry leaders
1988 The Philippine Software Industry Association is established by ten Filipino-owned software companies.
1990s The industry booms as local software houses net deals with foreign clients. It enjoys unprecedented growth in investments and employment.
2000s The global IT industry takes a downturn toward 2003. Despite, and perhaps in answer to the challenge of globalization, the number of software companies in the Philippines continues to grow every year. |
